| Convert a La Marzocco GB-5 or FB-80 Steam Boiler to PID Control. So you want to PID your LA Marzocco steam boiler?
Perfect, you came to the right place. Now, if you have a new generation La Marzocco GB5 or FB80 you are in luck, as your machine's steam boiler already has the ability to go PID. All you will need is a couple of parts and the instructions to complete the conversion.
Now if you have a Linea or FB70 model, you need an additional PID controller as well as the parts mentioned above. We have these assembled into kits that you can find HERE.
Why would you PID the steam boiler you ask? Well here are few basic thoughts and facts to consider. First is scaling of the boiler. Fact is that scale develops at the junction of warm and cold, and with a PID in place there is less chance of the cooling process that causes scale build up within a boiler. Completing this procedure will not do away with the scale development, but it should greatly reduce it.
Another benefit is reduction of noise related to the contactor clicking and clacking in newer machines, as well as the elimination of the small unreliable electronic pressure stat found on newer model La Marzocco's. On older model La Marzocco's the elimination of the mechanical Sarai Pressurestat will result in a quicker responding steam boiler as well as the elimination of the clacking sound of the switch turning on and off.
The benefits of this conversion heavily outweigh the costs, and should be considered at the time of pressurestat replacement or overhaul of the machine.
This conversion is one of the many modifications that Espressoparts.com offers as service.
